Women in Leadership

Summer Semester 2025

This course provided an in-depth look at the leadership styles of top female leaders in business, politics, entertainment, and government. It examined how female leadership differs from male leadership and explored the strategies, challenges, and successes of women in positions of power. Through class discussions and case studies, I gained a deeper understanding of leadership dynamics, effective communication, and decision-making, as well as the unique obstacles women face in leadership roles today. Beyond these insights, the course was meaningful because it helped me develop critical analysis, reflection, and communication skills that I can apply to my future career.

Course Reflection

In this course, I actively engaged in analyzing leadership approaches, completing assignments, and conducting an interview with a female leader. My role involved researching leaders’ experiences, comparing leadership styles, and synthesizing insights from course materials and my interview into written and media projects.

One challenge I faced was reflecting on and discussing experiences that I hadn’t personally encountered. Sometimes it was hard to acknowledge certain obstacles or biases because I hadn’t seen them happen myself and naturally wanted to believe they wouldn’t occur. I worked through this by listening to others’ perspectives, engaging with course materials, and trying to approach the discussions with openness and curiosity.

Through this experience, I learned more about my own values and potential as a leader, the importance of understanding diverse leadership styles, and how to critically evaluate challenges women face in positions of power. It also helped me develop stronger research, communication, and analytical skills, which I see as essential for my future career. Overall, this course has shaped my professional development by giving me tools to approach leadership thoughtfully, support inclusivity, and apply these insights to my growth in any organizational or team setting.
